Information We Collect

Identifiers

This includes information that can identify you, your household, or the device you use to access our digital content, such as your name, address, zip code, telephone number, email address, Internet Protocol (IP) address, device information, and information about your automobile (e.g., Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), engine, year, make, and model). We may also collect your payment information, such as credit card details and billing address, or bank account information, when you buy Parts, Products in our Stores and on our Websites. Note that your payment card or banking information is collected directly and securely by our payment card processors who are subject to privacy regulations governing the financial industry. AutoZone does not automatically store your payment card information in our system. However, we do have an optional feature that allows you to store your payment information, so you do not have to provide it again in the future. We may collect government-issued ID for certain types of transactions—please provide this information only if requested. When you create an online account with us, we collect your log in credentials provided or created by you. We may also collect other online identifiers, such as your email address, IP address, device identifier, cookies, social media handles, and location data when you browse our Website or use our Apps.

Demographic Information (including Sensitive Personal Information)

Sensitive Personal Information includes information such as a person’s government ID number, precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, and genetic or biometric data.

Our Stores sometimes require government ID in situations such as verifying a pickup order, return without a receipt, or purchase of hazardous Products. We do not collect demographic information like your gender, racial or ethnic origin, age, or income directly from you. However, some of our business partners, such as third-party marketing and analytics vendors, may possess this information about you. They enrich our data with the demographic information they possess to analyze market trends and deliver targeted marketing to you on our behalf. You may make a request to Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information through our Data Subject Request Portal: https://dsar.AutoZone.com.

Commercial Information

This includes information about your purchase history or history of items you considered purchasing, parts, products or services you like, reviews you submit, or store locations where you shop.

Professional or Employment-Related Information

AutoZone Pro serves commercial customers. For our AutoZone Pro customers, we collect professional information, including business contact information, financial account information for transactions, commercial vehicle information, and other business-related details. Additionally, we may collect contact information related to the representative of a business customer, information related to their role within the company, and details related to their "AutoZone Commercial" Account, including the login credentials.

Internet, Device & Online Activity Data

This includes information about your online activities such as browsing history, search history, website pages viewed, App usage, interactions with the emails we send you, timestamps of activities, and other details about how you interact with our Website, App, emails, chats, text messages, and advertisements. We also collect device information, IP addresses, device ID, browser or operating system details, login credentials, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, mobile device type, and other interaction-related information. In some cases, this information may be used or combined in a way to identify you, the device you use, your household, your company, or your role within the company, for the purposes explained to you in this Policy, and in those cases will be treated as Personal Information under applicable laws.

We use technology that captures and reconstructs user interactions with our Websites—such as clicks, navigation paths, and page elements viewed—by storing portions of the website’s code. This helps us analyze how the site is used, identify areas for improvement, and enhance the overall user experience.

Geolocation Data

We collect your IP address for general geolocation purposes to enable certain features of our Websites. Although we may collect your precise geolocation data if you configure your device or browser to allow it, we do not use this information to track your movements. Instead, we use it to fulfill requests you may make to help you locate and provide directions to nearby AutoZone Stores. You can manage your location data collection preferences by adjusting the settings of your device.

Audio, Electronic, or Visual Data

We collect audio or video recordings and transcripts when you call us or visit our Stores (although we may not always be able to associate this information with you), or through our interactive chat functions, email, or SMS/MMS communications. We may record and transcribe our conversations with you to address your issues, improve our Parts, Products and Services, and for quality control purposes.

Inferences or Preferences

We infer your interests and preferences about our parts, Products and services based on the information (or combination of information) we have received from or collected about you. We do so to better understand customer behavior, preferences, and needs as well as overall customer experience. By analyzing data such as purchase history, demographics, and interactions with our Websites, we can identify the trends and patterns that can help us tailor our marketing strategies to meet the needs and preferences of our customers more efficiently.

  • Unless you have opted out of receiving such information, our third-party marketing and analytics partners may use Sensitive Personal Information they have independently collected about you, in combination with the Personal Information we have collected from you or on our Websites through cookies, to analyze market trends and customer interests, and identify appropriate audiences for specific advertisements, for more effective targeted advertising. Whether Personal Information is Sold or Shared

Certain features provided by our Websites, Apps and other digital consumer engagement channels, such as personalized content and targeted advertising initiatives, require the support of third parties. Providing your Personal Information to these third parties may be categorized as "selling" or “sharing” your Personal Information under the CCPA, and as processing your information for “targeted advertising” under other applicable U.S. state privacy laws. These third parties include analytics and marketing providers, such as Google Analytics, Bing Ads and Epsilon, and social media partners such as Facebook/Meta, YouTube and SnapChat.

To facilitate these Services, our social media, marketing, and analytics providers deploy third-party cookies and other tracking technologies on our Websites that collect Internet, Device & Online Activity Data to identify advertising audiences and deliver targeted advertisements to those audiences. Please note that a “sale” of Personal Information does not include instances when such information is part of a merger, acquisition, or other transaction involving all or part of our business. If we sell all or part of our business or make a sale or transfer of assets or are otherwise involved in a merger or other business transaction, we may transfer your Personal Information to a third party as part of that transaction.

Retention of Personal Information

Your Personal Information will be retained in accordance with our Record Retention Policy. Generally, we will only keep your Personal Information for as long as reasonably necessary to achieve the purposes for which it was collected. Our Retention Policy for Personal Information is based on several factors including the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, the purposes for which your Personal Information is collected and processed, and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means.

We may be required to keep your Personal Information longer due to legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or reporting requirements. We may also retain your Personal Information longer if there is a complaint or if we can reasonably anticipate a legal dispute arising from our relationship with you. If a specific regulation applies to the retention of your Personal Information, that regulation takes precedence over our Retention Policy.

How We Collect Your Information

AutoZone collects different types of information about you from a variety of sources and in multiple ways, including information you provide to us, information we automatically collect through technology, information we obtain from other sources, including third parties, and information we derive or infer about you.

Information You Provide to Us

You may choose to give us information about you when you interact with us, either in our Stores or online. Examples include:

Identifiers and Contact Information:  You may provide your contact information when you purchase or return a part or product or use a coupon or a reward.  We may require you to provide your name, email address, or other contact information when you contact us with a question or comment or request service assistance, whether by phone, email, interactive chat, Website form, survey, or other means.  If you establish an "AutoZone Rewards" account with us, we may require you to provide your name, email address, and a telephone number, and to create a password for your account. We will require you to provide your email address if you choose to sign up for our Duralast mailing list.

Financial Information:  We will collect your payment information when you place an order through our Website, or buy a Product at our Stores.

Contact Information for Inquiries:  Establish an "AutoZone Rewards" account with us, we may require you to provide your name, email address, and a telephone number, and to create a password for your account. We will require you to provide your email address if you choose to sign up for our Duralast mailing list.

Professional or Employment-Related Information:  AutoZone Pro will chiefly collect business information to fulfill orders between AutoZone Pro and its commercial customers.  This includes your name, business address, company title, business contact information, corporate payment information, the items you have requested to purchase, and any other information related to your order with those fulfillment providers necessary to complete your order (such as our payment card processor, and our shipment, transportation, and/or delivery providers).

Commercial Information:  We will require your name, telephone number, zip code, and other contact information, and the year, make, model and engine of your vehicle when registering a warranty item.

User-Generated Content:  You may provide us information by uploading or sharing a photo, submitting a request, or posting digital content through our Websites or via social media interactions on third-party websites including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, X, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn.

Information We Obtain from Others

We may also obtain information about you from business partners who help us provide our Services to you. For example:

Commercial Information:  We may obtain information about your order, parts or product return from our order fulfillment and delivery partners.  We may also receive warranty or parts and product recall information from a part manufacturer or distributor about a part or product you purchased from us, and we may combine such recall information with your account or information in our national warranty database or other systems to provide related Services to you.

Demographic Information including Sensitive Personal Information:

 We may enrich the Personal Information we have collected from you with Personal Information, including Sensitive Personal Information, about you that is provided to us by our advertising, analytics, and marketing partners, to inform you about our Products and Services that we think you might be interested in.

Internet, Device & Online Activity Data from Third-Party Websites:  We may receive information about you from third-party websites which deploy our cookies or from business partners such as web hosting providers, advertising networks, and analytics providers.  We may also access your information from Services that third parties offer, such as social media networks. The information we receive or obtain from these networks generally depends on your account or privacy settings and the networks’ privacy policies, and may include social sentiments, opinions, feedback, and interests. We do not control these third-party websites and encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit.

Information We Collect by Automated Means

We collect Internet, Device & Online Activity Data using cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience, improve our Services, provide personalized content, for analytics, to detect and fix problems, for general marketing, and for targeted advertising purposes. Cookies are small data files stored on your device that allow us to recognize your browser and capture certain information, such as your preferences, login credentials, and interaction with our Websites. Additionally, we use tracking pixels, web beacons, and other technologies to gather data on how you interact with our Websites, Apps, and emails, including pages visited, time spent on each page, links clicked, and other actions taken. Pixel Trackers, Web Beacons, and Transparent GIFs:  Pixel trackers and web beacons are tiny graphic images placed on our Website, and in our emails that allow us to determine whether you have performed a specific action. When you open an email from us or access our Website, the pixel trackers and web beacons generate a notice of that action. These tools allow us to measure responses to our communications, identify usability issues, and improve our Website.

Other Technologies:  We collect various types of information using other technologies to improve the quality of our Website and the Parts, Products and Services we provide. For example, we may collect usage data and other information about the device you use to access our Website, your operating system and/or mobile device type, browser type, domain, and other system settings, as well as the language your system uses and the country and time zone where your device is located.

Additional Mobile Application Information

Certain information is collected when you use our Apps, in addition to what may be collected when you use our other digital channels such as our website. For instance:

Device Information and Settings:  We may collect your device ID and may ask you to provide your precise location information when you use our Websites to provide store locations in proximity and certain App features and Services. You may choose to disable location tracking. However, certain functions of the Apps might not work properly if you do not share your location.

Camera, Photos, and Media Files:  As part of your experience, you can upload photos and images from your device to the Apps. To do so, the Apps may need to access or modify your camera, photo gallery, or other parts of your device containing media files.

Categories of Personal Information Recipients

We disclose your Personal Information with the following categories of recipients.

Service / Fulfillment Providers

We employ third-party fulfillment, shipment, transportation, and/or delivery providers, companies, individuals, and agents under contract with AutoZone to facilitate and help us provide our Products and Services to you (“Service Providers”). These Service Providers perform tasks or functions on our behalf, provide fulfillment and other services, or assist us in analyzing how our Products and Services are used or delivered.  They are granted access to your information only to perform the tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

For instance, we will share your name and address with product suppliers and delivery companies as necessary to fulfill your orders with AutoZone. For AutoZone Pro customers, this includes the name of your business, and business address.  We provide the personal or corporate payment information that you provide to us either in store or online to our payment card processors to fulfill your order. We share your account information with those providers that help us manage our AutoZone Rewards and other customer loyalty programs. We also disclose your Personal Information to our database and cloud storage providers that help us maintain our Websites and other systems.

Other AutoZone Entities

We may disclose your Personal Information to ALLDATA, a wholly owned subsidiary, and other subsidiaries.

Marketing Partners

As described in the Notice at Collection section of this Policy, we may disclose your Personal Information to our third-party social media, marketing, and analytics partners to help us provide personalized information to you about our Parts, Products and Services, including promotions or coupons we think you may be interested in.  You may have the right to opt-out of these disclosures.  For more information regarding your opt-out rights and choices, please refer to the  Your California and Other State Law Privacy Rights  and  Other Ways to Manage Your Personal Information  sections of this Policy.

Notice of Financial Incentive

Our AutoZone Rewards Program (“Program”) provides you (“Rewards Member”) with rewards for your eligible in-Store and online purchases. AutoZone Rewards is a free program that helps you get more for buying what you need. After every 5 purchases of $20 or more, Rewards Members earn a $20 merchandise credit (“20 Rewards Dollars”), as well as access to exclusive offers, coupons, and discounts. AutoZone may also, at our sole discretion, provide additional bonus credits in connection with certain transactions and/or promotions. We may also provide coupons or discounts for our Parts, Products and Services in exchange for your enrollment in email updates, newsletter delivery, contests, or similar Services to keep you updated (collectively, “Coupons”).

Coupons state the specific terms of the financial incentive or price discount, including the Personal Information requested to participate. For the AutoZone Rewards Program , you may opt-in by registering for an account in-Store, online, or on the mobile App. For Coupons, you may opt-in to the terms by entering the Personal Information requested.
